Leprechauns and Cluricauns

Leprechaun

The leprechaun is a figure in Irish folklore that is a part a fairy. But as he is a solitary fairy, he prefers to be alone and it is hard to see him as he hides extremely quickly behind trees! The Leprechaun, in the few instances when he is seen, is always repairing or making shoes. He is said to be wealthy as he has a magical coin that has that power that no matter what he buys there is always a new coin in his pocket. He fixes the shoes of the other fairies after they have danced. The leprechaun also takes care of the fairy money and he always hides it away, the money is kept in a pot. Only the rainbow can show the humans where the treasure of the leprechaun is kept. The leprechauns are never female. They are usually dressed in work clothes, in grey trousers with leather work aprons and red hats. The green hat version is therefore not really the outfit of the leprechauns, it is rather the outfit of the cluricauns.

Cluricauns

Are thought to be closely linked to leprechauns. They dress nicely, with silver buckled shoes on and colourful clothes (see like the images we have been given of the leprechauns and we see usually in all shops etc. ) .They run after sheep and cattle in the bogs and fields and like to drink wines, on contrary to the leprechauns who only drink beer.
